Stonewall Residents, do your part today to ensure the preservation of our beautiful tree canopy. Many of our mature trees are fast approaching end of life because they were already here or planted soon after the first phases of subdivision development in the 1950s! It takes decades for trees to reach the maturity that can provide the benefits that we have all come to enjoy. Plan now for our future, and plant a new tree today!
Reduce soil erosion and water polution
Help to recharge groundwater and sustain stream flow
Increase property values
Reduce cooling costs
Provide a habitat for wildlife
Combat the "greenhouse effect" by absorbing carbon; producing oxygen
Provide enjoyable shade
When planted in clusters or screens, can serve as windbreak and reduce traffic noise
"If you plant a tree today on the west side of your home, in 5 years your energy bills should be 3% less. In 15 years the savings will be nearly 12%." —Dr. E. Greg McPherson, Center for Urban Forest Research
Trees add beauty and grace to any community setting. They make life more enjoyable, peaceful, relaxing, and offer a rich inheritance for future generations.
The Stonewall community is very fortunate to have a significant number of mature trees throughout the neighborhood. Because many of these trees were planted nearly 50 years ago, they will soon be reaching the end of their life span. Residents are encouraged to plan (and plant!) now for the future to replace the trees that may die in the next decade. Large deciduous trees (such as silver maple, water maple, and oak) are recommended.
Trees planted now will be well-established to continue not only the legacy of our community, but also the benefits to all who reside in Stonewall. Show pride in your community - plant a tree today!
