LEXINGTON'S GREATEST UPTOWN HOUND
America's Uptown Hounds Luxury Resorts would like to invite our neighborhood hounds to take part in an exciting competition that will allow one local dog to carry the title of "Lexington's Greatest Uptown Hound!" Recently, CBS launched a hit show called Greatest American Dog featuring 12 dogs and their owners vying for the title of Greatest American Dog. The show, currently about to air its eighth episode, places dog and owner in a series of different comptitions, in each of which they are tested mentally and physically.
Uptown Hounds will be hosting Lexington's version of this competition. Beginning Sept. 21, each Sunday afternoon from 2-6PM, try-outs will be held. Twelve Neighborhood associations will be invited to submit a maximum of 4 dogs each week. If you are interested in enrolling your dog please go to www.uptownhounds.com for updated information. The final date for enrollment is Sept. 6. Stonewall's date for competition is Jan. 11, 2009.
The grandson of long time residents Joy and Dan Terhune, Eric was raised in the Stonewall Community on Lanette Lane. He was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 19, 2008 at age 34. Sign Eric's Guest Book Here.
RAIN GARDEN INFORMATION
A small section of Wellington Park will soon be planted in a rain garden, with Stonewall Association funding. Board members are currently working with LFUCG Parks planners to develop the plan and formalize this initiative.

GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP 2008: NOT ENOUGH TRUCKS. NOT ENOUGH TIME. OUTSTANDING PARTICIPATION!
Curbside pickup did take place on Saturday, June 7 as planned. Unfortunately, we did not receive the dump trucks for trash drop off over our scheduled weekend. The Division of Solid Waste did not have any trucks to spare as they had to be used to pick up debris all over the city that had been left behind from recent storms.
Stonewall's participation was overwhelming! The city volunteers supporting Great American Cleanup efforts did not have enough time to get to every residence on Saturday, June 7, but they did pick up the majority of the trash that was left on curbs. Other neighborhoods were registered for cleanup on the June 7 date also. At around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, crews were still working through the Stonewall area and had yet to begin in the last neighborhood on their list! Because they needed to use the trucks for pickup, sadly they could not be left at Stonewall and Higbee Mill Parks as originally planned.
The coordinators of the Great American Cleanup did stage 3 dump trucks at Higbee Mill Park the following weekend and by the afternoon of June 14, all 3 trucks were overflowing. We were able to get the word out of the "makeup session" for drop off services to the majority of residents via e-mail and to those that phoned in inquiries.
We hope that everyone can appreciate the massive job that LFUCG volunteers faced with the size of our neighborhood and the scale of participation. We also hope to coordinate this campaign again in the future and will structure it so that everyone can realize the full benefit of the Great American Cleanup.
YOU CAN HELP OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS BY DOING THE FOLLOWING:
Save Box Tops for Education: Both Jessie Clark Middle School and Stonewall Elementary participate in this program. Just clip the 10 cent Box Top coupon from hundreds of your favorite products. They can be dropped off at either school during school hours at the front offices. For a list of all participating products, visit www.boxtops4education.com. This is an easy way to help fund our schools, and every dime adds up quickly. If you would like a card or would like additional information, please contact Anna Wientjes at 252-0836 or e-mail awientjes@clayingels.com. Please consider joining the growing number of Stonewall families and friends who are earning money for our school by using their rechargeable Kroger gift cards to pay for their purchases. It’s very easy and pays off in a big way!
Recycle empty Ink Jet Cartridges: Again both neighborhood public schools collect these and get paid for recycling them.
Campbell’s Labels: Jessie Clark Middle School collects Campbell’s labels. These can be dropped at the school office during school hours.
Purchase Kroger Cards: Stonewall Elementary PTA receives money back from Kroger when you use a Kroger Gift Card purchased from the PTA. You can put money on the card via a check, debit, credit, or cash when you are checking out, then use the card to actually purchase the groceries. The cards cost $5.00 and are reusable. For every $100, the school receives $4.00.
