• The base
course is in from Higbee Mill to Station 42+00 • All CBI's have been installed on east side from Higbee Mill
to Merrimac • Continued hoe ramming east side at Station
49+83
This week Contractor will continue to hoe
ram on east side. Base asphalt will be placed
from Station 42+00 to Merrimac next week weather permitting. After
the asphalt is in then Contractor will temporarily stripe the road
for winter. The center section of the road will be striped for 2 lanes and
barrels will be placed on the outside lanes. Additional work such as storm
sewer and conduit will be laid during the winter months.
October 31 - November 3 • Placed DGA from Gravis Ct. to Cromwell for curb and
gutter installation • Finished Wall #4 and #5. (Redi-Rock Wall) • Hoe ramming still continuing on east
side at approx sta. 47+83
This week will
install curb and gutter, install CBI and storm sewer. Will also
include hoe ramming for storm sewer on east side. October 24-29

Contractor still in rock on the right side where main storm line
trunk is located. Majority of work this week was related to the Redi Rock
walls that are being installed. Work this week on the walls and installing
storm sewer pipe.
October 3-7 Contractor
still in rock for storm sewer.
No
estimated time frame for getting out of the rock. Contractor excavating
footers for retaining wall at Graviss Court.
This week Contractor will continue hoe ramming rock and
excavating footers for the wall.
JULY 9- JULY 17 UPDATE The Contractor
accomplished the following last week:
• Poured
curb on east side from Higbee Mill to Graviss Court.
• Poured box culvert headwall
• continued laying the 48" RCP
• continued working on the curb boxes and
catch basins.
• started digging for the footer of the
retaining wall near Graviss Court
This week the contractor will continue to lay more pipe, start working on the
concrete gravity wall on the east side of CMR and start the installation of the
Redi Rock wall on the west side.
I would also like to
report that Terry Justice, Resident Inspector will be retiring at the end of
the month. Terry has done an excellent job for the LFUCG but has decided to
start a new career as the lacrosse coach for the Transylvania Pioneers. Terry's
replacement will be Darrin Wallingford. Darrin has over 15 years of
construction experience and will maintain the same level of service and
oversight that we received from Terry.

JUNE 27- JULY 1 UPDATE The Division of Engineering is going to be providing weekly
updates on the progress of the Clays Mill Road Project for your benefit. Last
week was a productive week. The Contractor accomplished the following:
Completed DGA placement and
laid asphalt base for the temporary road widening.
Placed 3 box culvert sections
for the 18’ culvert extension. Poured the concrete connection
between the existing and new culvert interface.
Completed work on installing
catch Basins between Higbee Mill and Graviss Ct.
Started placing DGA for
permanent road widening at Lt. STA 26+25 (Westside of CMR at Higbee Mill)
Continuing to lay 48” RCP
on eastside of CMR and set catch basin boxes.
This week the contractor will install another super modified
box and will place DGA for the curb from Higbee Mill to Graviss Ct. He will
continue to work on the headwall for box culvert.
JUNE 21, 2011 UPDATE Sunday night at 1:30 am our inspector was called out to the site to investigate a trench that had opened up and created a 2- 4 inch depression across Clays Mill Road. The gravel in the trench had washed out as a result of the rains Sunday morning. This has caused numerous flat tires and bent wheel rims. The Clays Mill Road Project has been stalled because of the record setting spring rains and utility conflicts which were unforeseen until the contractor was on-site. All of these issues have been resolved and the contractor was back on the job site Monday,June 13. Also, expect temporary lane closures on Clays Mill Road, near Higbee Mill Road, as early as next week in order to install a storm sewer pipe. Once the temporary lane closures are confirmed you will be notified with at least a 3 day notice.

MARCH 4, 2011 RESIDENTIAL MAIL BOXES AND MAIL DELIVERY DURINGCONSTRUCTION
Dear Clays Mill neighbors, Within the next week to 10 days in preparation forconstruction of the Clays Mill widening project, your personal mailbox will becarefully removed and placed on your property. Prior to removing your mailbox, the USPS (United StatesPostal Service) will be erecting a community mail box station on Merrimac Drivenear the intersection with Clays Mill in front of the United Pentecostal Churchat 3416 Clays Mill Road. The USPS will be providing you an envelope with (3)keys to your individual mailbox at the community mailbox location. It will benecessary for you to retrieve your mail here for the next 8 or 9 months whilework on the project is taking place.
